ABOUT ME
My name is Dr Caroline Ariaens and I am a Specialist Anaesthetist working at Waikato Hospital in Hamilton, New Zealand. I am also a Mum of three children - Charlotte, Jack and Emily.
I have had both friends and patients receive incorrect advice about breastfeeding following anaesthesia and sedation. This can cause harm including unnecessary anxiety and distress, reduced milk supply, early weaning, mastitis, and dehydration if a baby won't take a bottle.
I created this website during my obstetric anaesthetic fellowship at Auckland City Hospital. My hope is that the site helps both breastfeeding patients and the health professionals caring for them.
Please feel free to contact me via the email address provided if you have any questions or comments about this website. Also, follow our Instagram page where I will share beautiful photos of breastfeeding parents.
